Introduction: Returning to the Light of the Salaf

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, his family, his Companions, and all those who follow them in sincerity until the Day of Judgment.
Welcome to Maktaba Al-Qahtaniyyah—a dedicated initiative born from a sincere desire to serve the Deen of Allah by reviving the legacy of the Salaf al-Salih (the Pious Predecessors). In an age of confusion, innovation, and diluted religious discourse, we strive to be a trustworthy source for authentic, unadulterated Islamic knowledge rooted in the Qur’an, the authentic Sunnah, and the understanding of the first three generations of Muslims.
Our journey begins with foundational texts—those concise yet profound works that safeguard Aqeedah (creed) and clarify Manhaj (methodology). Among these, none is more essential for every Muslim than Usool al-Thalatha (The Three Fundamental Principles) by Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab. And there is no explanation more lucid, balanced, and accessible to the English-speaking seeker than the Sharh (commentary) by Shaykh al-Islam Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen—now available in a premium hardcover English edition through our publishing efforts.

About Maktaba Al-Qahtaniyyah

Maktaba Al-Qahtaniyyah is more than a publisher—it is a da’wah project. We do not merely sell books; we distribute ilm (knowledge) as a trust from Allah. Every title we select undergoes careful scrutiny to ensure it aligns with the aqeedah of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah and the manhaj of the Salaf.
Our core principles include:
  • Authenticity: We prioritize texts verified by trusted scholars, with chains of transmission (isnad) or scholarly endorsement where applicable.
  • Clarity: We favor clear, precise language—especially in translation—so that the meaning of the Salaf is not lost in ambiguity.
  • Focus on Aqeedah & Manhaj: While we value all Islamic sciences, we emphasize works that protect the heart from shirkbid’ah, and misguidance.
  • Sincerity (Ikhlas): Our ultimate aim is the pleasure of Allah—not profit, fame, or partisanship.
Through partnerships with scholars, translators, and printers, we aim to make high-quality editions—like the Ibn Uthaymeen Sharh of Usool Al-Thalatha (English, Hardcover)—accessible to students, teachers, and families across the globe.

The Virtue of Seeking Knowledge: Guidance from the Sunnah

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ elevated the status of the seeker of knowledge above all but the prophets. He said:
  1. “Whoever treads a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise.” — Sahih Muslim
  2. “The superiority of the scholar over the worshipper is like the superiority of the moon over the rest of the stars.” — Sunan al-Tirmidhi (graded Hasan)
  3. “When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah), beneficial knowledge (‘ilmun nafi’), or a righteous child who prays for him.” — Sahih Muslim
  4. “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.” — Sunan Ibn Majah (authenticated by Al-Albani)
These hadith remind us that knowledge in Islam is not academic luxury—it is a religious duty, a means of purification, and a legacy that outlives the body.

Wisdom from the Salaf: Quotes That Illuminate the Path

“Knowledge is not what is memorized. Knowledge is what benefits.”— Sufyan al-Thawri (d. 161 AH), one of the Imams of the Salaf
“If knowledge does not increase you in fear of Allah, humility before Him, and action in obedience to Him, then it is merely information—and on the Day of Judgment, it will be a proof against you, not for you.”— Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen (d. 1421 AH)
“The people of knowledge are the heirs of the Prophets. They carry the religion on their shoulders and preserve it from distortion.”— Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (d. 241 AH)
“Do not seek knowledge to argue with the foolish, show off before the scholars, or attract praise. Whoever does so—Allah will punish him.”— Hasan al-Basri (d. 110 AH)

The Qahtani Legacy: Identity and Honor in the Arabian Peninsula

The name “Al-Qahtaniyyah” pays homage to the noble lineage of Qahtan, the forefather of the southern Arabs. Historically, the Qahtani tribes—including Himyar, Kindah, Tayy, Azd, and Madhhij—inhabited the fertile highlands of Yemen, Najran, Asir, and parts of central Arabia. Many of these tribes embraced Islam during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ and produced renowned Companions and scholars.
In modern Saudi Arabia, communities in the southern regions (Najran, Jizan, Asir) proudly trace their ancestry to Qahtan. This heritage is one of Arab nobility, linguistic richness, and deep-rooted Islamic tradition.
However, at Maktaba Al-Qahtaniyyah, we affirm that our **primary identity is not tribal—but Islamic**. We are Muslims first, adhering to the Qur’an and Sunnah as understood by the Salaf. The name “Qahtaniyyah” is a tribute to our roots, but our aqeedah and manhaj belong to the global Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ.

The Da’wah of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab: A Revival of Tawhid

In the 12th century AH (18th century CE), amid widespread ignorance, grave worship, and superstition in Najd, Allah raised a renewer (mujaddid): Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (d. 1206 AH). His call was not a new sect or ideology—but a return to the pure monotheism (Tawhid) taught by every prophet, culminating in the message of Muhammad ﷺ.
His methodology was built on:
  • Tawhid al-Uluhiyyah: Worshiping Allah alone—without invoking saints, graves, or jinn.
  • Rejection of Bid’ah: Eliminating innovations in worship not practiced by the Prophet ﷺ or his Companions.
  • Adherence to the Salaf: Taking the first three generations as the ultimate reference in belief and practice.
  • Calling with Wisdom: Using the Qur’an and clear proofs—not coercion or extremism.
This movement—often mislabeled “Wahhabism” by outsiders—is simply the Salafi da’wah: the way of Ahl al-Sunnah. It became the religious foundation of the modern Saudi state and continues to inspire scholars and students worldwide.
At Maktaba Al-Qahtaniyyah, we uphold this legacy by publishing works that clarify Tawhid, warn against shirk, and guide the Ummah back to the straight path—starting with foundational texts like Usool al-Thalatha and its indispensable explanation by Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen.
